Real-time vs aged leads: what changes for the buyer
For aggregators, lead-generation companies and buying desks in home improvement and MVA: how contact timing, consent age and filtering differ between real-time delivery and aged lists.
Request real-time supplyThe short answer
Real-time leads reach you while the consumer is still waiting to hear back, with a fresh consent record and your filters applied before you pay. Aged leads cost your team more work per contact and carry older consent that needs checking before anyone dials. Buyers who route leads to clients as they arrive usually want real-time. Outbound teams with spare dialing capacity sometimes work aged lists as well.
This page covers the buyer side. If you generate leads and are deciding how to sell them, read the seller guides on real-time vs aged leads and real-time vs aged MVA leads.
Real-time vs aged leads, compared
| Factor | Real-time (ping/post or direct post) | Aged leads |
|---|---|---|
| When you receive the lead | Moments after the consumer submits the form, while the request is still on their mind. | Days, weeks or months after submission, usually in a list or batch file. |
| Contact timing | Your team can call while the consumer is expecting a response. Speed of first contact matters most here. | The consumer may have forgotten the request, hired someone else or changed plans. Expect more attempts per contact. |
| Consent record age | Consent was given minutes before you receive it, and the record arrives with the lead. | Consent is older. Check who it names, whether it was revoked and whether the number has changed hands. |
| Filters | Applied before you pay: vertical and sub-type, states or ZIP codes, other criteria and daily caps. With ping/post you bid only on pings you want. | Usually applied to a list after the fact, often by age bracket and geography. Fewer live criteria. |
| Integration | An endpoint that accepts pings and posts, or a direct post endpoint for fixed-price leads matching your criteria. | Often a file import or a bulk upload into a dialer or CRM. |
| Typical buyer operation | Intake teams, call centers and buying desks that route each lead to a client right away. | Outbound teams with spare dialing capacity that work older data over longer cycles. |
Consent age and the TCPA
Every lead you call or text relies on the consumer’s consent. With a real-time lead, the consent record (opt-in language, timestamp, IP address and page URL) is minutes old and arrives with the lead, so your team can check it before the first call.
With an aged lead, the same record is older, and more can have changed since it was given. Before dialing, a buyer should know which sellers the opt-in language named, whether the consumer has since asked not to be contacted, whether the phone number may have been reassigned, and whether the number is on a do-not-call list. State rules can add their own conditions. None of this is legal advice: have your counsel set the policy your team follows, and see TCPA compliance for how consent is captured on the leads we supply.
Which buyer operations fit each
Real-time fits when
- You route each lead to a client campaign as it arrives and need it fresh.
- Your intake team or call center answers new leads during set hours and can call quickly.
- You buy MVA leads, where the claimant’s situation changes fast after an accident.
- You want filters and daily caps applied before a lead is sold to you.
- You need a current consent record with every lead.
Aged leads can fit when
- You run an outbound team with dialing capacity that fresh supply does not fill.
- Your campaigns work longer decision cycles and repeated follow-up.
- Your compliance team has reviewed how you handle older consent records.
- You accept that contact and qualification rates will be lower per lead.
How Summit Leads delivers
Summit Leads supplies real-time leads. It does not sell aged leads. Delivery is by ping/post: a ping with partial, non-identifying data goes out, you bid, and the winning bid receives the full lead by post. A direct post option lets you set a fixed price for leads matching your criteria without being pinged, and batch delivery is available where a buyer’s systems require it.
You set filters and daily caps, and new buyers start with a small test volume. Leads are exclusive by default: each lead is sold to one buyer, with shared delivery available on request. Coverage is all U.S. states for home improvement and MVA. See how the ping/post integration works.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between real-time and aged leads for a buyer?
A real-time lead reaches you moments after the consumer submits a form, by ping/post or direct post. An aged lead is sold later, often in a batch or list. For a buyer the practical differences are contact timing, the age of the consent record and how much filtering happens before you pay.
Does TCPA consent expire on aged leads?
The age of a consent record raises questions a buyer should answer before calling: which sellers the consent named, whether the consumer has revoked it, whether the number has been reassigned and whether it is on a do-not-call list. Rules also vary by state. Have your own counsel review how you use older consent.
Which filters apply to real-time leads?
With Summit Leads you set filters by vertical and sub-type, states or ZIP codes and other criteria, plus daily caps. With ping/post you see a non-identifying ping first and bid only on the leads you want.
Does Summit Leads sell aged leads?
No. Summit Leads supplies real-time leads by ping/post, with direct post and batch delivery available where a buyer’s systems require it. Batch delivery is a delivery format for current leads, not a sale of aged lists.
What if my system cannot take real-time pings?
A direct post option lets you set a fixed price for leads matching your criteria without being pinged, and batch delivery is available if your systems require it. We agree the method on the onboarding call.
Are real-time leads from Summit Leads exclusive?
Leads are exclusive by default: each lead is sold to one buyer. Shared delivery is available if a buyer asks for it.
Which verticals and states are covered?
Home improvement leads for roofing, flooring, siding and gutters, bathroom renovation, and bathroom and windows, and MVA leads for car, motorcycle, commercial vehicle or truck, and rideshare accidents, in all U.S. states. You choose the states or ZIP codes you buy in.
