Hosted landers vs your own landers

A lead gen affiliate can build and host their own landers and post leads to buyers, or send traffic to landers a network owns. This page compares the two setups, including who handles consent, and helps you decide which one fits the way you work.

Your own landers

With your own landers, you own the whole path from the ad to the lead. You build the page, capture the lead and send it to a buyer or network. That gives you full control, and it puts every part of the setup on you.

  • You build, host and test the landers.
  • You write and maintain the TCPA consent language.
  • You generate and store a consent certificate for each lead.
  • You integrate with each buyer or network to post leads.
  • You control every part of the page, from layout to form fields.

Hosted landers

With hosted landers, the network owns the page and you own the traffic. You send people to the network's lander through a tracking link, and the network handles what happens after the click.

  • The network builds, hosts and maintains the landers.
  • The network handles the consent language and consent certificates.
  • The network routes the leads. You do not integrate with buyers.
  • You focus on buying and managing traffic.
  • You have less control over the page itself.

When each fits

Your own landers fit if you:

  • Already have landers that convert and a team to maintain them.
  • Have a consent setup and a way to store consent certificates.
  • Already have buyer integrations, or are ready to build them.
  • Want to test page layouts and form fields yourself.

Hosted landers fit if you:

  • Are a media buyer who is strongest at producing traffic.
  • Do not want to write consent language or store consent certificates.
  • Do not want to integrate with buyers one by one.
  • Want to launch a first campaign with a tracking link and creative.

Some affiliates use both: hosted landers for new verticals or sources they are still testing, and their own landers where they already have the setup in place.

Common mistakes

  • Building your own landers without a consent record. If you cannot show what the person saw and agreed to, buyers can return or reject the lead.
  • Copying consent language from another site. Consent language should fit your own business, your buyers and your form. Get advice on the wording from your own counsel.
  • Changing the page you were sent to. On hosted landers, the consent language is not changed or removed, and that includes hiding it.
  • Pre-landers that misdescribe the next step. If the pre-lander promises something the lander does not offer, the people who arrive are the wrong people.
  • No sub IDs. With hosted landers, the tracking link and sub IDs are your only view of which ads produce sold leads.

Summit's options

Summit supports both setups, in MVA and home improvement, across all U.S. states.

Publisher program (hosted landers)

Send traffic to Summit landers through your tracking link. Summit captures TCPA consent on every lead, routes it by real-time ping/post, and pays rev share on sold leads. Consent language on Summit landers is not changed or removed. See the traffic guidelines.

Sell your leads (your own landers)

Generate leads on your own forms with your own consent capture, and sell them to Summit by ping/post. See MVA and home improvement.

Frequently asked questions

What is a hosted lander?

A landing page that a network builds, hosts and maintains. You send traffic to it through a tracking link, and the network captures the lead, the consent and the routing.

Who handles TCPA consent on a hosted lander?

The network that owns the page. On Summit landers, Summit captures TCPA consent on every lead and attaches a consent certificate. Publishers do not change or remove the consent language.

Can I send traffic to my own lander and still work with Summit?

Yes, through a different program. If you generate leads on your own forms with your own consent capture, see sell your leads.

Do I lose control with hosted landers?

You have less control over the page itself. You keep control of your traffic: sources, targeting, creative, budget and bids.
