Texas wind records and 2025 rainfall

Texas reported two kinds of damaging wind in large numbers during 2025. The NOAA Storm Events Database, 2025 details file has 1,205 Texas entries typed Thunderstorm Wind and 448 typed High Wind. High Wind entries describe strong wind that did not come from a thunderstorm.

Rain fell short of normal. Statewide, Texas recorded 26.01 inches in 2025, while its 1991 to 2020 average is 28.6 inches a year, according to NOAA's Climate at a Glance series (2025 data). One statewide total blends the dry west with the wetter east, so it does not describe rainfall in any single ZIP code.

On the counting: a Storm Events entry is one county or forecast zone touched by one event, so a squall line that crosses ten counties adds ten entries. The rainfall figure is the January through December total.

Detached homes and build years in Texas

Close to two of every three Texas housing units are single-family detached houses, 64.4% in the Census Bureau's table B25024 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024). On a detached house the owner alone decides on new siding or a new gutter run, with no condominium board or shared wall involved.

Half of all Texas housing units were built in 1992 or later, the median year in table B25035 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024). At the older end, 33.2% of units went up before 1980, according to table B25034 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024).

A Texas statute on contractors and insurance claims

This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.

Wind damage to siding is often paid through a homeowners claim, and Texas law separates the contractor from the claim. Insurance Code 4102.163 (statutes current through the 89th Legislature, 2025) says a contractor may not act as a public adjuster, or advertise to adjust claims, for any property for which it is providing or may provide contracting services. The bar applies even if the contractor holds a public adjuster license or a power of attorney from the insured.

A lead form that asks whether an insurance claim has been filed tells a buyer's client, before the first call, that this section may matter on the job.

Filters for Texas siding and gutter campaigns

Texas campaigns are usually set with four fields.

  • ZIP code: a statewide campaign spans very different regions, so most buyers list only the ZIP codes their installers drive to.
  • Project type: vinyl or fiber cement siding replacement, siding repair, new gutter installation, gutter guards or gutter repair.
  • Storm damage: whether hail, thunderstorm wind or high wind caused the request, and whether a claim is open.
  • Homeowner status: only the owner can sign for exterior work, so renter submissions are removed.

Where buyers filter in Texas

Four Texas metro areas had more than two million residents each in the Census Bureau's July 1, 2025 estimates, and two border metros, McAllen and El Paso, complete the six largest. Population is the only measure shown here. Buyers set ZIP codes inside whichever of these areas their crews cover, or anywhere else in Texas.

  • Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington: 8,477,157 (July 1, 2025 estimate)
  • Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands: 7,904,627 (July 1, 2025 estimate)
  • San Antonio-New Braunfels: 2,813,140 (July 1, 2025 estimate)
  • Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos: 2,620,945 (July 1, 2025 estimate)
