Indiana housing age and home values
Indiana's oldest band of housing is also its biggest. Table B25034 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024) counts 474,947 units built in 1939 or earlier, ahead of the 1990s (404,095) and the 1970s (389,892). Buyers that serve installers who work on older houses can add the build year as a question on the request.
Values are moderate. The median owner-occupied Indiana home is valued at $218,200 in table B25077 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024), 40th among the 50 states. Every band from the Census table is shown below without merging.

Indiana homeowners and households that moved in recently
Indiana counts 286,748 owner households that moved in during 2020 or later, in table B25038 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024). Buyers look at this group because the months after a purchase are when many owners decide what to do about the floors they inherited. The table counts households and is not a count of flooring requests.
The owner base in table B25003 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024) is 1,916,243 of 2,716,009 occupied units. An owner-only filterFilterA rule that decides which leads a buyer is offered, based on fields such as vertical, sub-type, state, ZIP code, homeownership or accident details. Glossary keeps tenants, who cannot authorize new flooring, out of a campaign.
The 2024 ACS table splits recent move-ins into 2020 to 2022 and 2023 or later, so the count above starts in 2020.
Indiana contract rules for interior flooring work
This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.
Indiana's Home Improvement Contracts chapter covers work inside the house. IC 24-5-11-2.8 (2026 Indiana Code) defines an interior improvement as any alteration, repair, replacement, reconstruction or other modification of the interior of real property, including a basement.
Small jobs fall outside it. Under IC 24-5-11-4 (2026 Indiana Code), the chapter applies to agreements, oral or written, where the contract price exceeds $150.
Material lists matter in Indiana contracts. Section 8 defines specifications to include lists of materials and the quality of materials, and IC 24-5-11-10(a)(5) (2026 Indiana Code) says that if the contract description leaves them out, the contract must state that they will be provided before work begins and are subject to the consumer's separate written approval.
Local contractor licensing and the home solicitation cancellation period are covered on leads in Indiana.
Filters for Indiana flooring requests
An Indiana flooring campaign is usually set on four fields:
- Homeowner status: the requester owns and lives in the home.
- Material and rooms: carpet, vinyl plank, laminate, hardwood or tile, room by room, which lets the installer draw up the material list early.
- Move-in timing: a recent purchase or a long-time owner.
- ZIP code: the counties and towns the buyer's installers reach.
