Indiana storm wind and annual rainfall

Almost every Indiana wind record in 2025 came from a thunderstorm. In NOAA's Storm Events Database 2025 details file (dated August 19, 2026), Indiana has 714 records with event type Thunderstorm Wind and 3 with event type High Wind.

Indiana's statewide precipitation was 39.86 inches in 2025, per NOAA's Climate at a Glance statewide series (2025 data). The 1991 to 2020 average for the state is 43.63 inches a year. Both numbers are useful when a buyer sizes gutters and downspouts for a region, and neither says anything about how many homeowners will ask for the work.

Counting rule: each Storm Events record is one event type in one county or forecast zone, so a storm line that crosses several Indiana counties is counted once per county. Precipitation is the 12-month statewide total through December.

Indiana detached housing and its age

Nearly three in four Indiana housing units are single-family detached homes: 72.6% in the Census Bureau's table B25024 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024). A detached house shares no wall with a neighbor, so its siding and gutters are one owner's decision.

The stock is also older. Table B25035 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024) gives a median year built of 1976, and table B25034 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024) shows 55.0% of Indiana units built before 1980. Indiana contract law for exterior work

This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.

Indiana sets rules for the home improvement contract itself. Chapter 24-5-11 of the Indiana Code names exterior work directly: IC 24-5-11-2.5 (2026 Indiana Code) defines an exterior improvement as any alteration, repair, replacement, reconstruction or other modification made to the exterior of residential real property, including structures and fixtures on it.

The dollar threshold is low. Under IC 24-5-11-4 (2026 Indiana Code), a real property improvement contract is any agreement, oral or written, with a contract price over $150.

For jobs paid through homeowners insurance, IC 24-5-11-10(e) (2026 Indiana Code) says that for contracts signed after June 30, 2017, neither the supplierSupplierAny company that provides leads to a buyer, whether it generates them itself or brokers them from publishers. Glossary nor a subcontractor or vendor named under the contract may initiate or pursue a claim with the insured consumer's insurance company. A violation of the chapter is a deceptive act that the attorney general or a consumer can act on, under IC 24-5-11-14 (2026 Indiana Code).

Local licensing and the three-day home solicitation rule are covered on leads in Indiana.

How Indiana siding and gutter buyers narrow leads

  • Homeowner status: owners only, since the owner signs the contract the chapter regulates.
  • Project type: siding versus gutters, and repair versus full replacement.
  • Recent storm damage: whether a thunderstorm caused the request, and whether an insurance claim is open.
  • ZIP code: buyers choose ZIP codes, which also keeps them inside the towns where their crews hold any local license.
