Washington wind records and statewide rain

In the 2025 storm file, Washington's wind records lean toward the non-thunderstorm type. NOAA's Storm Events Database, 2025 details file (dated August 19, 2026) has 33 Washington records with event type High Wind and 11 with Thunderstorm Wind. Washington is one of seven states in that file with more High Wind than Thunderstorm Wind records.

Statewide, Washington recorded 40.01 inches of precipitation in 2025 and averages 43.18 inches a year for 1991 to 2020, in NOAA's Climate at a Glance series (2025 data). The statewide figure is one number for the whole state, so it says nothing about any single ZIP code.

Method: a Storm Events record covers one county or forecast zone in one event, and the two event types are counted separately. The rainfall value is the January to December statewide total.

Washington housing by structure and age

Older housing is a large part of the Washington stock. The Census Bureau's table B25034 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024) shows 43.4% of Washington housing units built before 1980, and table B25035 for the same years puts the median year built at 1985.

Single-family detached homes are 61.9% of Washington housing units in table B25024 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024). The rest are townhomes, multifamily buildings and mobile homes, each in its own row of the table, so a buyer that wants detached houses can ask for the structure type at intakeIntakeThe process a law firm or its intake team uses to screen a potential client, collect the facts of the accident and injury, and decide whether to take the case. Washington registration rules that name siding and gutters

This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.

Washington's contractor law names siding outright. RCW 18.27.010 (as of October 2026) defines a contractor to include anyone who, in an independent business, undertakes "the installation or repair of roofing or siding," among other work.

Labor and Industries rules split the two trades. WAC 296-200A-016 (effective June 5, 2009) defines a "Siding" specialty for installing all types of exterior siding, including wood, vinyl, aluminum and metal, and a separate "Gutters and downspouts" specialty for installing, repairing and maintaining gutters and exterior downspouts.

Chapter 19.186 RCW adds rules for solicited roofing and siding contracts. When the homeowner plans to borrow for the job, RCW 19.186.030 (1994) bars the contractor from starting work until the homeowner's rescission rights expire. RCW 19.186.040 (1994) makes anyone who buys or is assigned such a contract subject to the homeowner's claims and defenses.

Registration with the Department of Labor and Industries and the home sale cancellation rule are summarized on leads in Washington.

Filters for Washington siding and gutter leads

Because the state registers siding and gutter contractors under different specialties, Washington buyers often split the two from the start:

  • Project type: siding or gutters, and repair or full replacement, matched to the specialty each contractor holds.
  • ZIP code: set per buyer to match each crew's service area.
  • Homeowner status: owners only, which keeps out requests from renters and association units.
  • Recent storm damage: whether a windstorm or heavy rain led to the request.

Washington siding and gutter lead questions

Are siding and gutters separate contractor specialties in Washington?
