Oklahoma hail reports and federal storm declarations
Only Texas had more hail records than Oklahoma in 2025. The Storm Events Database 2025 details file from NOAA holds 836 Oklahoma records with the event type Hail. A record names a county or forecast zone, a date and a hail size, so a roofing buyer can match it to the ZIP codes its crews work.
Five Oklahoma major disasters for severe storms or tornadoes were declared from January 1, 2023 through October 7, 2026, according to FEMA's Disaster Declarations Summaries: DR-4706 (April 24, 2023), DR-4721 (July 19, 2023), DR-4776 (April 30, 2024), DR-4791 (June 14, 2024) and DR-4862 (March 18, 2025). Each one names severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes in its title.
Counting method: the hail figure counts 2025 Storm Events rows for Oklahoma whose event type is Hail, with one row for each county or zone a storm touched. The FEMA figure counts separate state major disaster (DR) declarations whose incident type or title is a severe storm, tornado or hurricane. Tribal declarations and severe winter storm declarations are left out.
Oklahoma statutes on insurance-paid roofing contracts
This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.
The Roofing Contractor Registration Act has two sections that apply when a homeowner's insurance policy is expected to pay. Under 59 O.S. 1151.21 (CIB compilation, 2025), an insured who signs such a contract may cancel it within seventy-two hours after receiving written notice from the insurer that all or part of the claim was denied. Before signing, the contractor must give a boldface statement of that right in at least 12-point type and attach a Notice of Cancellation form.
Section 1151.30 bars a residential or commercial roofing contractor from advertising or promising to pay all or part of an insurance deductible, or offering to pay the insured for a service, as an inducement. If a contractor breaks this rule, the insurer is not obligated to consider that contractor's estimate. Each roofing contractor has to include a written notice of the section with its initial estimate.

Owners and housing age in Oklahoma
Close to half of Oklahoma housing predates 1980: table B25034 puts the share at 49.4% in the ACS 5-year estimates for 2020-2024, and table B25035 gives a median year built of 1980 for the same period.
Owners are the people who sign a roofing contract. Table B25003 counts 1,027,837 owner-occupied units out of 1,562,389 occupied Oklahoma housing units (ACS 5-year 2020-2024).
What Oklahoma roofing buyers filter on
In Oklahoma the claim question carries the most weight, because two statutes above turn on whether insurance pays.
- Insurance claim status: filed, planned or none. A claim-paid job brings the 72-hour denial cancellation notice and the deductible rule.
- Project type: storm inspection, repair or full replacement, often set by the age of the roof.
- Homeowner status: renters cannot sign, so owner confirmation comes before delivery.
- ZIP code: buyers draw coverage around the counties named in recent hail records.

- Tulsa: 1,069,273 (July 1, 2025 estimate)
- Lawton: 127,590 (July 1, 2025 estimate)

Oklahoma roofing lead questions
Can an Oklahoma homeowner cancel a roofing contract if the insurer denies the claim?
Yes, within seventy-two hours after written notice of the denial, under 59 O.S. 1151.21 (CIB compilation, 2025). The contractor must return payments within ten days. This is general information, not legal advice.
May an Oklahoma roofer offer to cover a homeowner's insurance deductible?
No. Section 1151.30 of the Roofing Contractor Registration Act bars advertising or promising to pay any part of the deductible, and an insurer need not consider the estimate of a contractor who does. This is general information, not legal advice.
Which Oklahoma storms led to federal disaster declarations after 2022?
Five declarations for severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes: DR-4706 and DR-4721 in 2023, DR-4776 and DR-4791 in 2024, and DR-4862 in 2025, per FEMA's Disaster Declarations Summaries.
Can buyers take Oklahoma roofing leads only after a hail event?
Buyers can change ZIP code filters at any time, so coverage can follow a storm path and be narrowed again later. Leads are exclusive by default, with shared delivery on request.
