New Jersey registration rules that reach siding work

This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.

The Division of Consumer Affairs names siding when it describes who must register. Its Home Improvement Contractor Business page (last modified March 18, 2026) lists businesses that work on roofing and siding among home improvement contractor businesses, together with windows, doors, porches, insulation installation and other residential work.

The Division's frequently asked questions (last modified March 3, 2025) answer several points a siding buyer may meet:

  • Out-of-state businesses: a business that sells or makes home improvements on New Jersey homes must register, wherever it is based.
  • Subcontractors: a subcontractor of a registered business must also register.
  • New homes: construction of a new residence is not a home improvement under the act.
  • Renewal: registration is renewed by March 31 each year; the Division FAQ (last modified March 3, 2025) lists a $110 initial application fee and a $90 renewal fee.

The registration requirement itself and the three-day cancellation right are on leads in New Jersey.
