Alaska wind and precipitation, 2025

Almost all of Alaska's 2025 wind records are High Wind rather than thunderstorm wind. The 2025 details file of NOAA's Storm Events Database has 78 Alaska records with event type High Wind and 2 with event type Thunderstorm Wind.

Statewide precipitation was 38.71 inches in 2025, slightly above the 1991 to 2020 average of 37.63 inches a year, in NOAA's Climate at a Glance statewide series (2025 data). A single statewide figure covers coastal and interior areas alike, so local totals differ from it.

The counts are made this way: each Storm Events record is one event type in one county-equivalent or forecast zone with a begin date in 2025, and one storm can create records in several zones. Precipitation is the 12-month total ending in December.

Alaska registration trades that include siding

This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.

Alaska's specialty contractor certificate names a trade, and two trades list siding in their scope. The licensing division's Specialty Contractor Trades List (form 08-4818, rev. September 3, 2025) shows them:

  • Rough carpentry contractor (12 AAC 21.250): framing, structural work, siding, roof shingles, exterior wall sheathing and roof sheathing, among other items.
  • Sheet metal contractor (12 AAC 21.480): metal work of all kinds, exterior wall sheathing and siding, metal roofing and flashing, and ornamental sheet metal including cornices.

Small repairs can fall to a handyman registrant. Under 12 AAC 21.700 and AS 08.18.071(b)(4), in the division's construction contractor statutes and regulations (September 2023 compilation), a handyman contractor works on projects with an aggregate contract price of $10,000 or less, labor and materials included, and may not do work that requires a residential contractor endorsement or an electrical or mechanical administrator.

For a buyer, the trade on each certificate and the size of the job are two ways to match a request to a contractor client. General registration and the residential endorsement are summarized on leads in Alaska.

Alaska homes by structure type and age

Detached houses make up most of Alaska's housing. The Census Bureau's table B25024 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024) puts single-family detached units at 63.2% and single-family attached units at 7.8%.

Half of Alaska's housing units were built in 1986 or earlier, the median year built in table B25035 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024). An attached home shares at least one wall with a neighbor, so buyers may ask whether the owner controls the exterior before a siding lead is sent.

What Alaska siding and gutter buyers filter on

These are the fields buyers set for Alaska, in the order most apply them:

  • ZIP code: a buyer can cover Anchorage only, add the Mat-Su or Kenai ZIP codes, or include remote communities its crews serve.
  • Homeowner status: owners of detached homes, and of attached homes where the owner controls the exterior.
  • Project type: siding or gutters, repair or replacement, so smaller jobs and full re-siding requests go to different contractors.
  • Recent storm damage: whether high wind or another weather event caused the damage.

Where buyers filter in Alaska

Alaska has two metropolitan areas and a micropolitan capital, shown here with Census Bureau estimates for July 1, 2025. Siding and gutter buyers who work beyond them select the ZIP codes of the towns and villages they reach.

  • Anchorage: 405,821 (July 1, 2025 estimate)
  • Fairbanks-College: 93,972 (July 1, 2025 estimate)
  • Juneau (micropolitan): 31,609 (July 1, 2025 estimate)
