Wind and rainfall in Florida

Thunderstorm wind is the wind event Florida reports most. The Storm Events Database 2025 details file holds 268 Florida records with event type Thunderstorm Wind and none with event type High Wind, the category NOAA uses for strong non-thunderstorm wind.

Rainfall is measured statewide in NOAA's Climate at a Glance series (2025 data). Florida received 44.55 inches in 2025, against an average of 54.42 inches a year for 1991 to 2020. Gutters on a Florida home carry that water in a normal year, and siding faces wind-driven rain during summer thunderstorms.

How the counts were made: each figure is the number of 2025 Storm Events records for Florida with that event type, one record per county or forecast zone per event. Precipitation is the 12-month total ending in December.

Florida housing type and age

Siding and gutter work is mostly on detached houses. In the Census Bureau's table B25024 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024), 54.7% of Florida housing units are single-family detached homes. The rest are attached homes, buildings with two or more units, and mobile homes, each counted separately in the same table.

Older housing is a smaller part of the Florida stock than in most states. The Census Bureau's table B25034 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024) shows 34.0% of Florida housing units built before 1980, the homes most likely to still have original siding or gutters if they have not been replaced after a storm.

The median Florida housing unit was built in 1988, in table B25035 for the same period. Buyers can ask for the approximate build year at intakeIntakeThe process a law firm or its intake team uses to screen a potential client, collect the facts of the accident and injury, and decide whether to take the case. Florida contractor rules for exterior work

This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.

Florida contractor classes are set in chapter 489. Section 489.105(3)(c) (2026 Florida Statutes) describes the residential contractor, whose services are limited to construction, remodeling, repair or improvement of one-, two- or three-family residences of limited height.

Once paid, a contractor has to keep working. Section 489.126(3) (2026 Florida Statutes) says a contractor who receives money for residential work in excess of the value of the work performed may not fail or refuse to perform any work for any 90-day period, or for a different period the contract specifies.

Certified and registered licensing in general and the three-day home solicitation rule are on leads in Florida.

What Florida siding and gutter buyers filter on

  • Homeowner status: the owner of the house signs for exterior work, so tenant requests are filtered out.
  • Project type: siding repair, full siding replacement, new gutters, gutter guards or repair.
  • Recent storm damage: whether wind or rain caused the request, which ties to the storm records above.
  • ZIP code: buyers choose the ZIP codes their crews reach.

Where buyers filter in Florida

The list gives the six most populous Florida metro areas in the Census Bureau's July 1, 2025 estimates. Siding and gutter crews usually work within a short drive of their base, so most buyers choose ZIP codes inside one or two of these areas.

  • Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater: 3,418,895 (July 1, 2025 estimate)
