High wind outnumbers thunderstorm wind in New Mexico
In most states thunderstorm wind records outnumber High Wind records. New Mexico is the reverse: the NOAA Storm Events Database 2025 details file lists 306 New Mexico records typed High Wind, the sixth highest count of any state, and 115 typed Thunderstorm Wind. High Wind covers sustained or gusting wind that is not produced by a thunderstorm.

New Mexico license classes for siding and gutters
This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.
New Mexico gives siding a classification of its own. Under 14.6.6.9 NMAC (effective March 10, 2022), a GS-31 Siding licensee may apply, replace or repair siding of slate, gypsum, wood, plastics or other products, including the furred-up networks the siding is attached to. The class requires two years of experience.
Gutters sit in a different class. The same rule describes GS-32 Miscellaneous sheet metal as fabricating on site and installing sheet metal such as cornices, flashing, gutters, leaders, rainwater downspouts and pans, and it excludes HVAC duct systems. The GS-21 Roofing class also includes gutters and downspouts when they relate to and are incidental to a roofing project.
The Construction Industries Division license requirement and the door-to-door cancellation rule are on leads in New Mexico.
