Alabama plumbing certification and builder licenses
This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.
Alabama certifies plumbers through the Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board. Its licensing page (checked October 7, 2026) sets three levels: a registered apprentice, a journeyman plumber after a minimum of two years as an apprentice, and a master plumber, whose exam requires at least one year as a certified journeyman.
The board's FAQ (checked October 7, 2026) says a company in the plumbing business must register with the board under a principal master and update that registration every year, and that a journeyman cannot act as his own contractor. Its list of work that does not need a master certificate includes repairing lavatory fixtures without touching a stop valve, but the FAQ states that removing a toilet is breaking the seal of a trap. Plumbing work, other than gas, in or about a building owned or occupied by the owner is also on the exempt list.
Larger remodels also fall under the Home Builders Licensure Board. Its unlicensed builders page (checked October 7, 2026) quotes Ala. Code 34-14A-2(16): repair or improvement of a residence counts as residential home building when the cost of the undertaking exceeds $10,000. The rest of that licensing scheme is on leads in Alabama.
Alabama homeowners by age, and when their homes were built
Alabama has 1,402,155 owner-occupied units out of 1,997,247 occupied housing units, per table B25003 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024). In table B25007 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024), 479,859 of those owner households have a householder aged 65 or older.
The 65-plus count gets attention from bathroom buyers because owners in that age group are the usual source of requests for step-in tubs, walk-in showers and handrails. It is a count of Alabama households, and Summit makes no claim about how many of its leads come from that group.
The median Alabama housing unit dates from 1986, according to table B25035 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024).
Alabama rules for remodeling sales made at the home
This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.
Alabama's home solicitation statute prescribes the contract wording. Code of Alabama 5-19-12 (checked October 7, 2026), on the Legislature's code site, requires a written agreement dated the day the buyer signs, with a notice under the conspicuous caption "BUYER'S RIGHT TO CANCEL"; the seller may instead give the notice from the FTC rule in 16 CFR Part 429. Until the seller complies, the buyer may cancel within one year after the sale.
After a cancellation, the same section gives the seller 10 days to returnReturnA buyer's request for credit on a lead that fails agreed standards, such as a disconnected number, a duplicate or a lead outside the filters. Glossary payments, any goods traded in and any note. The three-day period itself is described on leads in Alabama.
Outside the state statute, the federal FTC Cooling-Off Rule gives three days to cancel some sales made at a buyer's home.
Alabama bathroom lead filters buyers use
These are the fields Alabama bathroom buyers set most often:
- Project scope: a toilet or drain change brings in a certified plumber, and a large remodel can cross the home builder license line, so buyers ask what the homeowner wants done.
- Homeowner status: only an owner can sign the remodeling contract, so renters are screened out.
- Home age: a build year tells crews whether to expect original fixtures and older supply lines.
- ZIP code: buyers select the ZIP codes their crews or contractor clients serve.

When the cost of the undertaking exceeds $10,000, under Ala. Code 34-14A-2(16) as quoted on the Home Builders Licensure Board unlicensed builders page (checked October 7, 2026). This is general information, not legal advice.
What caption must an Alabama in-home sales agreement carry?
"BUYER'S RIGHT TO CANCEL," under Code of Alabama 5-19-12 (checked October 7, 2026), or the federal FTC notice in its place. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can Alabama bathroom leads be bought for the Gulf Coast only?
