CSLB license classes that cover siding and gutters
This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.
California names siding work in a license class. The Contractors State License Board's D-41 Siding and Decking classification (CSLB, checked October 7, 2026) covers applying or installing all types of exterior siding, including wood, vinyl, aluminum and metal, on new or existing buildings, along with wooden decks and handrails. It excludes covers and enclosures.
Gutters appear in the sheet metal class. The C-43 Sheet Metal Contractor description (CSLB, checked October 7, 2026) lists gutters and leaders among the sheet metal items that contractor installs.
Siding is also one of the trades a remodeler may contract for. Under Business and Professions Code 7057.5 (B-2 Residential Remodeling, CSLB), a residential remodeling contractor may take a prime contract that includes siding, but only when the contract covers three or more unrelated trades on an existing wood frame home.
The license requirement in general and the home solicitation cancellation periods are on leads in California.
How California siding and gutter buyers narrow delivery
- Project type: siding replacement, siding repair, new gutters, gutter guards or downspout work, which can map to different license classes.
- Property type and ownership: a detached house with the owner submitting, rather than a renter or a unit in a shared building.
- Storm or wind damage: whether the request follows a wind event or winter rain.
- ZIP code: the area each crew serves, set ZIP by ZIP.
