The Utah license class for siding and rain gutters

This section is general information, not legal advice. It summarizes official sources as of October 7, 2026; check the current text of each rule before relying on it.

Utah names gutters in a contractor license class. Under R156-55a-301af (rule effective August 7, 2026), an S230 Masonry, Siding, Stucco, Glass, and Rain Gutter Contractor may construct, fabricate and install siding, stucco, glass, rain gutters, drains, roof flashings, gravel stops and metal ridges, along with masonry, tile and shower pans.

The same rule limits the class to that list. An S230 licensee must keep all work within the scope in R156-55a-301af(1) and may not subcontract or hire anyone to do work outside it. A buyer whose client also replaces roofs can ask whether the client holds a second license class for that work.

The general requirement to hold a Division of Professional Licensing license, its exemptions and the home solicitation cancellation rule are on leads in Utah.

Utah wind events and a dry 2025

Most Utah wind records in 2025 came from thunderstorms. The NOAA Storm Events Database 2025 details file has 163 Utah records typed Thunderstorm Wind and 26 typed High Wind, the type NOAA uses for strong wind that is not tied to a thunderstorm, such as strong wind from a winter front.

Utah received less precipitation in 2025 than in an average year. NOAA's Climate at a Glance statewide series (2025 data) records 10.39 inches of statewide precipitation for 2025. The 1991 to 2020 average is 13.52 inches a year. In winter months gutters on a Utah house also carry snowmelt from the roof.

How these figures are counted: a Storm Events record covers one county or forecast zone for one event, and only records with a 2025 begin date are included. Precipitation is the 12-month statewide total ending in December.

Detached and newer: Utah housing

Utah housing leans toward single-family detached homes. The Census Bureau's table B25024 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024) counts 813,940 detached units out of 1,223,468, or 66.5% of the state's housing units.

The stock is young. The median Utah unit was built in 1992, according to table B25035 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024), and table B25034 for the same period places 35.5% of units before 1980. Buyers can ask for the approximate build year at intakeIntakeThe process a law firm or its intake team uses to screen a potential client, collect the facts of the accident and injury, and decide whether to take the case. Glossary and use it to separate repair requests from full replacement.

What Utah siding and gutter buyers ask for

A Utah order is usually set up with these filters:

  • Project type: siding, stucco repair, new gutters, gutter guards or downspouts, and repair versus replacement.
  • ZIP code: chosen along the Wasatch Front, in Washington County or in Cache Valley, wherever crews work.
  • Homeowner status: owners only, since a tenant cannot authorize exterior work.
  • Recent storm damage: whether wind or snow load caused the request.

These are Utah's five largest metro areas in the Census Bureau's July 1, 2025 estimates. Logan includes one Idaho county, so its figure covers both states. Buyers set ZIP codes within or across these areas.
