Idaho solar leads

Idaho has the highest share of single-family detached homes of any state, 73.8% of housing units in the Census Bureau’s 2020-2024 ACS, and the EIA reports that solar supplied 9% of in-state generation in 2025. Idaho’s installed small-scale solar

The EIA estimates small-scale solar (behind-the-meter systems under 1 MW) for each state every month. In the Electric Power Monthly, Table 6.2.B, Idaho reached 205.0 MW in July 2026, up 17.7 MW from 187.3 MW in July 2025, a gain of 9.5%. By total capacity, Idaho ranked 36th of the 49 states with an EIA estimate in July 2026.

Set against Idaho’s housing, the number is modest: the state has the highest share of detached houses in the country but a mid-to-low rooftop solar total. For a buyer, it means a smaller base of existing systems to service than the housing alone might suggest. It is a capacity figure, not a measure of how many homeowners are asking for quotes.

How much sun Boise rooftops get

Boise is Idaho’s largest city in the Census Bureau’s July 1, 2025 estimates. The PVWatts calculator, originally from NREL and now operated by the National Laboratory of the Rockies, puts the solar radiation reaching an array there at 5.19 kWh per square meter per day (checked October 9, 2026).

Method: the PVWatts version 8 default array, fixed on an open rack, facing south with a 20-degree tilt, at Boise’s Census gazetteer location, run on the National Solar Radiation Database typical year. The panhandle around Coeur d’Alene and steeper or shaded roofs will see different values; the figure compares states on one basis and does not forecast a specific system.

Where solar fits in Idaho’s power supply

The EIA’s Idaho state profile (last updated July 16, 2026; checked October 9, 2026) describes a grid led by hydropower. In 2025, renewable sources generated about 73% of the electricity made in Idaho, counting customer-sited small-scale solar, the fourth highest renewable share of any state. Hydropower supplied nearly half of generation, natural gas 27% and wind 15%.

Solar is newer. The EIA profile says Idaho’s first utility-scale solar plants came online in 2016, and that solar of all kinds supplied 9% of the state’s net generation in 2025, with more than four-fifths of the solar PV output coming from utility-scale plants rather than rooftops. The residential sector took 37% of Idaho’s electricity sales in 2025, the largest share of any sector.

For a buyer, these facts set the context an Idaho installer works in: a utility supply already mostly renewable, with rooftop systems a small part of the solar total.

Idaho leads the states in detached houses

No state has a larger share of single-family detached homes. In the Census Bureau’s table B25024 (ACS 5-year 2020-2024), 586,652 of Idaho’s 795,014 housing units are detached houses, 73.8%. Table B25032 counts 458,764 owner-occupied detached homes, or 89.2% of the state’s 514,361 owner-occupied homes.

Housing age is covered on Idaho window replacement leads, and heating fuels on Idaho HVAC leads, so they are left off this page.

Ada and Canyon, the two Treasure Valley counties around Boise, together hold 191,354 owner-occupied detached homes in the 2020-2024 ACS, and both are above 91% detached. Latah (81.4%) and Bonner (83.1%) have the lowest shares in the ten.

Reading Idaho’s numbers as a solar buyer

The housing and energy data above add up to three practical points for Idaho coverage:

  • Housing type is rarely the limit. With 73.8% of all housing units detached in the 2020-2024 ACS, housing type narrows an Idaho ZIP code list less than in any other state.
  • One valley holds much of the market. Ada and Canyon counties account for 191,354 owner-occupied detached homes in the 2020-2024 county table, so a buyer can start in the Treasure Valley and add regional centers.
  • Rooftop is a small slice of Idaho solar. The EIA profile attributes more than four-fifths of 2025 solar PV generation to utility-scale plants, so rooftop systems are a small part of the state’s solar output.

None of these points counts leads or homeowner requests. They describe the houses, the grid and the solar already built in Idaho.

How Idaho solar buyers filter leads

Solar buyers typically filterFilterA rule that decides which leads a buyer is offered, based on fields such as vertical, sub-type, state, ZIP code, homeownership or accident details. Glossary on four fields from the lead. In Idaho, each one connects to the data above:

  • Homeowner status: owners decide on a roof system; see the owner-occupied detached homes above.
  • Project type: the kind of solar project the homeowner asked about, in general terms; the exact options are set when the solar form is finalized.
  • Timeframe: whether the homeowner wants to install soon or is still comparing options.
  • ZIP code: buyers choose ZIP codes their crews can reach, often starting in the Treasure Valley counties.

The filters for Idaho solar leads are agreed with each buyer during onboarding. Exclusive or shared routing for solar leads is agreed with each buyer during onboarding. Field names are on the sample solar lead.

Where buyers filter in Idaho
